Weed Seed Searches.
Prepare your crop for interstate and international export by completing a mandatory independant Weed Seed Search.
AgEtal can help prepare your crop for international export by carrying out Weed Seed Searches. These are required for export compliance for interstate (WA and TAS) and international MICoR (Manual of Importing Country Requirements) compliance. Western Australia and some other export destinations have complex quarantine regulations.
Export destinations require certificates of analysis declaring freedom from prohibited and restricted weed seeds and sometimes other organisms. They also restrict the amount of soil contamination. Some destinations require freedom from certain named storage pests and diseases. Our Weed seed search includes declarations of freedom from named insect pests.

Reasons for Weed Seed Searches
- The main reason for Weed seed searches is for export compliance according to interstate requirements or MICoR. Our certificate is used by interstate importing authorities or DAFF as evidence of independent examination and confirmation that a sample is free from prohibited weeds and pests. In other words, it is a “passport” to export seed and grain to specified destinations. DAFF use the information on our certificate of analysis to produce a phytosanitary certificate.
- Different export destinations have different requirements according to their quarantine conditions.
- All weed seeds and insect pests that are identified are listed. For certain destinations foreign matter is quantified and described. Where known, weed seeds are categorised as “Permitted”, “Prohibited” or “Restricted”. Detection of prohibited seeds means that a seed lot cannot be exported to the specified destination. Restricted seeds may be able to go into the destination specified subject to various import restrictions, such as requiring fumigation prior to shipment.
- Wherever possible we will let you know if your product has failed the test and therefore cannot be exported. However, authorities in the export destination or DAFF have the final say, so we advise that our certificate should be given the green light by them before shipment of product commences.
